One glue trap ends days of searching for venomous zebra cobras in north Raleigh.
Following many hours of consultation and preparation by officers from Raleigh police and animal control, the glue trap finally caught a venomous zebra cobra on the porch of a home in north Raleigh on Wednesday night, a 48-hour incident that generated nationwide interest.
Cobras in red buckets are guided into a safe location so the glue on their bodies can be removed.
An earlier image captured by WRAL show the snake scrabbling to the front porch of a house on Sandringham Drive, crawling through the siding. As it lifted its head, the hood was visible.
The Wildlife Control officers moved camera crews back after confirming that this is the snake, then went in to attempt to capture it.
Searches were launched early Tuesday after the same home made a 911 call.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Following a 48-hour saga that garnered attention from across North Carolina, a venomous zebra cobra was caught with a glue trap on a Raleigh porch Wednesday night, coming to an end in North Carolina after nearly 48 hours of turmoil.
To completely remove the glue from its body, the cobra was seated in a red bucket and transported to a safe location.
An earlier video interview had captured a striped snake crawling onto a porch on Sandringham Drive from the siding of a house. Its hood was visible when it raised its head to look around.
After confirming it was the snake, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back before moving in to capture it.
This same residence had called 911 early Tuesday, sparking the search.

A neighbor, Joan Nelson, said she is relieved the ordeal is over.
It makes me really happy and I feel much more secure, she said. Now that I can go outside, I can walk on my deck and go outside. The snake seems to have a lot of problems, though.

A zebra cobra, which can spit up to nine feet, is faster than most snakes, so even a morning stroll with the dog becomes a fearsome event. Approximately 60% of all snakebite deaths occur in Africa. A victim's nervous system could shut down if stung with venom.
One who is poisoned by the cobra would immediately feel pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. Following a heavy fever, breathing problems would result, leading to respiratory failure.
Salina Locke is an experienced veterinarian at Avian and Exotic Animal Care, where she treats all types of pets.
Cobras of this species do not bite. The venom from them, she said, is typically sprayed. She said they are extremely accurate and shoot straight for the eyes.
The risk of keeping this snake as a pet prevents Locke from recommending this snake for this purpose.

In the late afternoon on Tuesday, police searched 6917 Chamonix Place, near the place where the snake was last spotted.
There were four visits by police to that house in March in connection with an animal issue. Following the sighting on Monday and Tuesday of the zebra cobra on a porch about half a mile away, they returned.
According to county records, Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at that address. A Facebook account associated with Keith Giffords shows several photos of snakes, which he identifies as being his son's, Christopher.
Christopher Gifford has over 460000 followers on TikTok. In one of his posts, he claims to have a 7-foot-long zebra cobra.
